Introduction to Special Section

This Special Section of Perspectives on Terrorism seeks to advance understanding of this issue by presenting five articles that examine a range of topics concerning extremists in the courtroom, highlighting a number of recurring themes. It is hoped that this Special Section will contribute to our knowledge of what happens to extremists in the courtroom by providing an evidence-based understanding of sentencing outcomes, the decision-making processes involved in sentencing decisions, the strategies used by defendants at trial and the barriers to researching terrorism trials.
