Volume XX, Issue 1, 2026
Articles in Volume XX, Issue 1of Perspectives on Terrorism examine the functioning of Salafi-jihadi online ecosystems in permissive digital environments, distinctions between violent jihadist and non-violent Salafist discourse, patterns and correlates of terrorist recidivism in Belgium, and constructions of white nationalism on 4chan’s /pol/ board. Together, these contributions advance debates on online extremism, ideological interpretation, offender trajectories, and digital manifestations of white nationalist mobilisation.
This issue also includes three Research Notes: analysing the ideological and strategic evolution of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), examining the structure and risks associated with decentralised “Com” networks and the need for clearer conceptualisation and cross-sector responses, and exploring the emergence of a digitally driven European “grey zone” of terrorism that challenges traditional ideology-based explanatory frameworks.
The issue concludes with a new bibliography on the use of drones in terrorism and counter-terrorism, as well as three book review essays covering War-Making as Worldmaking: Kenya, the United States and the War on Terror, The Psychology of the Extreme, and Extremism, Terrorism, Radicalisation and Violence: Cause & Solution by Para Wijayanto, the former emir of the now-disbanded Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).
